Intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program (IPVAP)

Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM)

April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month (SAAPM). It is an annual campaign observed in the United States during the month of April to raise public awareness about sexual assault or threatening sexual harassment, educate communities on prevention strategies, and support survivors.

Did you know that 81% of women and 43% of men report experiencing sexual harassment and/or assault in their lifetime? Over 50% of these reported that the assault was from an intimate partner or close acquaintance.

That is why, each April, and throughout the year, the intimate Partner Violence Assistance Program (IPVAP) partners with the Military Sexual Trauma (MST) program and Assault and Harassment Prevention Office (AHPO) to provide awareness and resources for those who work with Veterans impacted by sexual violence.  Whether it happened one year ago or 50 years ago, VA is here to support survivors’ healing.
